Enhancing vision of 1bn people

It has been a while since I added an entry to this blog. One of the reasons being I haven’t come across anything worthy to write about.

Today I came across this article – http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2008/dec/22/diy-adjustable-glasses-josh-silver where an inventor is able to come up with an invention that can potentially provide better vision to millions of people and perhaps a billion people. The simplicity of approach and the possibility of scaling the solution to reach out to millions of people who suffer from weakening eye sight is worthy of sharing and appreciation. I think there should be an organization/effot similar to One Laptop Per Child which will promote distribution of this type of eye-wear. In addition to basic necessities like drinkable water, I think provide clear eye sight is a noble and worthy cause.

ILOG now part of IBM

Recently IBM announced that ILOG will be acquired and become part of the Websphere brand. The business rule engine market is consolidating and the cost for these products will rise tremendously as they become part of larger organizations. Fair Isaac’s Blaze reportedly costs over $25k/server. Hopefully this will generate fresh interest in JBoss Rules (DROOLS) and result in more adoptions.

If you are subscribing to articles using Feedburner, you may have noticed that videos that are embedded in the post are not distributed using the Feedburner Feeds. I don’t know how to make it happen. In the mean time, you can always visit the site to view the video. I will be adding the word “video” to the post title so that you can visit the main site to view the video.
